Case Study: Equine Cremator Reline Cast Hearth

Equine Cremator Reline Cast Hearth and Combustion Air Pipes

Complete reline and refurbishment of a medium sized animal cremator for the Yorkshire Equine Crematorium. Firstly after the removal of the old lining the shell is cleaned and if required repaired to ensure full integrity. After which the insulation is cut to form round the circumference of the drum and the hearth is poured using a hard wearing SIC castable, after which the combustion air pipes are reinstated after fully cleaning out the manifold ensuring fully free flowing combustion air. Shutters are then built to suit and securely fitted into place over the air pipe tails and suitably propped to prevent movement during casting. The shutters are then poured again with a highly abrasive castable better to resist rake damage during the ash out process.

Next and following on from the hearth the insulation lining is continued round the drum with stainless steel anchors attached at regular pitches to the drum sides to retain the working lining when cast. Also at this stage burner pockets are left out of the cast lining to allow for formation of burner quarls to suit the new burners and ensuring flame positioning is optimised for the complete efficient reduction of the carcass. Following on from this and due to the relatively small diameter of the machine and to ensure minimal down time special steel shutters were commissioned, rolled and fabricated with steel ribs to allow minimal strutting within the drum. This allows the shutters to be poured safely giving the installer room to move whilst in the machine pouring the shutters.
